The brand new season kicked off with a live broadcast from the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, Minnesota, followed by our annual Meatloaf Supper and Street Dance. With special guests, pioneering bluegrass quartet Hot Rize, songwriter and fiddler Sara Watkins, harmonica revolutionary Howard Levy, and singer Lynn Peterson. Plus, the Royal Academy of Radio Actors, Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and Fred Newman; The Exchange Street Band (musical director Rich Dworsky, with Richard Kriehn on mandolin and fiddle, Bernie Dresel on drums, Chris Siebold on guitar, and Larry Steen on bass); and the latest News from Lake Wobegon.” – A Prairie Home Companion

Hot Rize was honored to be featured guest on this season’s opening edition of the legendary “A Prairie Home Companion”, the American Public Radio nationally-syndicated show hosted by Garrison Keillor. The band’s history on the show dates back to May, 1978, before national syndication, and continued through many return visits in the 1980s. This was the band’s first appearance on APHC since then. The Street Dance featured Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers with Thelma Otto on fiddle, and contests for Overacting and Bob Dylan Imitations.
